Green Turtle I've taken thousands of pictures and this is my favorite. Another six inches and it would have been perfect. |
Manta Ray This is the only Manta I've seen while diving. It was about noon just off of Makena Landing. |
Crown of Thorns Starfish Not a good starfish. They destroy the reef and sting unwary divers. |
Bad Brenda This is Brenda trying to tease a moray to get him to come out of his hiding place. Not her best idea! |
Octopus This was relatively large (for Maui), about three feet from end to end. This was a night dive at Ulua Beach. |
Whitetip Reef Shark This was an exciting encounter. He swam toward us very fast.I think he was just irritated since we swam too close to him. Notice the hook in his jaw. |
Huge Moray This is the biggest Moray I've ever seen. They look ferocious, but they're really not that bad. It's not a good idea to try to feed or touch them though. |
Cuttlefish This is the only cuttlefish I've ever seen. It was on a night dive at Ulua Beach. He was hanging around in about 10 fsw. He let us pet him and swam up to our masks. |
Scribbled Filefish This was another night dive encounter. He was about two feet long and just liked to hang our at the reef. |
Squid This was another night dive. He was near the rocks in about 15 fsw. As I got closer, he started flashing white and red, just like in National Geographic. You can see a bit of the red on the bottom. |
Raccoon Butterfly Fish You can see how they get their name. |
Threadfin Butterfly Fish These guys are everywhere. They seem to be drawn to my yellow camera. |
